From 1978 to 1982, Dave played guitar in a post punk/power pop band called The Chevrons, gigging regularly mostly in Greater London. They recorded a single called ‘Sindy’s Got An Action Man’.
His next venture involved setting up a small eight-track studio where they recorded custom songs as gifts. He was working with the makers of Max Headroom on a possible musical featuring a female computer generated character.
During this time, he started working with a songwriter called Phil Ryan. They decided to write a real musical and enlisted the help of a musician called Denny Bertin. The resulting musical called ‘Storm City’ was workshopped at the Theatre Royal Stratford East. They then wrote a musical version of Silas Marner by George Elliot. This was staged over two nights at Theatro Technis in Crowndale Road NW1.
Dave became involved with Wycombe Arts Centre and continues to perform as a solo acoustic act and as part of The Ilk. He uses the stage name ‘Twangling Jack’ (a Shakespearian insult from Taming of the Shrew). He’s well-known in the Wycombe area for a YouTube video which is a musical tribute to High Wycombe.
